Options Trading

I was introduced to options trading in April 2021 by a friend. At first, I couldn’t wrap my mind around it but am now happy to report that I have picked up the basics. It has been a humbling experience and a lifelong learning endeavour.

My main objectives for trading options are:

  1. Generate some income
  2. Purchase stocks I want at a discount

I keep a log of all my options and stock trades in Google Sheets. Strike prices, risk and reward ratio, win rates, yield percentages, etc. I find this log helpful for review and planning.

I was told that journaling my options trades and reflecting on my trades afterwards will help improve my trading. That is what I am trying to do here.

Financial Peace

Money permeates every part of life. It is important that we master it instead of letting it master us. I have gone through sufficient financial mistakes to know that I need guidance. I came across Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover and resonated with 3 things:

  1. Freedom from financial stress
  2. Intentionality: Knowing where every dollar is going (the “Zero-Based Budget”)
  3. Security: Having an emergency fund so that life’s unexpected events don’t become crises.

I also found that his ideas shared similar traits with the Singapore Government’s approach to helping citizens secure financial stability. I can apply what I learned to the Singapore context. I document my learning points and reflections here.

Peace cannot be bought with money, but proper money management can protect it.
