What did Jesus mean by “It is finished!” What is finished?
It is finished is Tetelestai in Greek. It is an accounting term that means “paid in full.” From Romans 3:23-25, we know that mankind owed God a sin debt. That was the debt that Jesus paid in full.
23 23 for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God; 24 being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus; 25 whom God sent to be an atoning sacrifice,[a] through faith in his blood, for a demonstration of his righteousness through the passing over of prior sins, in God’s forbearance;
Romans 3:23-25 WEB
My sin debt to God has been paid by Jesus. Why is that important to me?
It means I don’t have to pay it because I am no longer short of the glory of God. I am the righteousness of God in Christ. I don’t have to work for my fellowship with God.
The enemy can no longer accuse me of wrong-doings. And if I falter, I can run straight to God for comfort and not condemnation. There is hope.

Surely as the dawn awakes Your love for me will never fade Relentless love pursued my soul Till condemnation lost its hold You took my sin The just for the unjust You made me Yours Through Your redeeming blood No other works can qualify You paid in full salvation’s price I’m given life by nail-scarred hands To worship You with all I am You took my sin The just for the unjust You made me Yours Through Your redeeming blood Conquered death Reversing every curse You broke the chains You tore the veil Glorious King The name above all names You paid in full You rose to reign Everything gained I count loss In the light of the cross Every demand made You paid With the stripes that You bore You are all I need You are all I need

We have come to the end of this post. I hope you have found what you are seeking. If not, keep looking. For Jesus said,
9 “I tell you, keep asking, and it will be given you. Keep seeking, and you will find. Keep knocking, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened.
