I first heard Ozaki’s I Love You in 1994 and the Korean and English versions years later. The Korean and English versions kept the title and refrain but changed the lyrics and meaning of the song. I like all the renditions. What about you?

Written and performed by Yutaka Ozaki (尾崎豐), really famous and active in the late 80s to early 90s. His career was cut short when he died in April 1992 at the age of 26.

*Translator’s Note: In our interpretation of these lines Ozaki is saying that because he and his girl are both young their options are limited by the world at large (their parents, society), so they end up in this box like abandoned kittens. Nowhere to go.

I Love You by Position (Korean)

The song was remade by Lim Jae-wook – NamuWiki of Position, around 2004.

The music video is a major production. Unlike most MV, this one is like a mini movie with a touching story. It features Cha Seung-won , Shin Ha-kyun, and Lee Yo-won. Shin Ha-kyun played the guy with the brain injury (Sean Shin). I first saw him in the movie Joint Security Area and much later in the Korean TV drama Brain, and lately, Beyond Evil. It comes with English and Korean sub-titles, so you know what the story is about and the lyrics of the song.
