Psalm 91 lyrics. This worship song declares the protective power of God as recorded in Psalm 91:1-5 and remind us to TRUST in Jesus.
It was written by the New Creation Worship team in 2003 when the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) outbreak hits Singapore.
I had just returned to Singapore after completing my studies in Australia. The outbreak was not widespread, unlike this COVID-19 outbreak nearly 20 years later. But news of people passing away due to SARs was heart-breaking and people who knew those who died were afraid for themselves.
Joseph Prince began to encourage the Church by preaching a series of sermons on Psalm 91 and teaching us to claim the promises in this psalm.
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of Yahweh, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.” 3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his feathers. Under his wings you will take refuge. His faithfulness is your shield and rampart. 5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Psalm 91:1-5 WEB
We claimed that we will not suffer death from the disease because of God’s supernatural protection. Verse 3 was especially relevant. SURELY, God delivers me from the snare of the fowler and from the noisome pestilence. Is not SARS a pestilence. Verse 4 was comforting. It describes Jesus as a mother hen, covering us with His feathers. Under His wings, we are protected.
Putting melody to the verses, the song became a declarative song.
SARS came and went. We did not forget the song nor the protection God promise us. We continue to pray protection over ourselves. It became even more important in this season.
Sing along to this song and let our hope arise. Meditate on the truths of Psalm 91.

I will dwell in the secret place of the Most High
I will stay in the shadow of Your wings
For Lord, You are my refuge
My tower of strength
My hope is in You
Secure, I stand
You will deliver me
Your truth will be my shield
Jesus, You cover me
In Your love, no fear prevails
No evil, no terror, no arrow, no plague
Shall ever come near me
For You are my safety, my hiding place
Jesus, I trust in You
Jesus, I trust in You
Jesus, I trust in You
Jesus, I trust in You
Other Ways to Meditate on Psalm 91
Beside the worship song, there are a couple of ways to study and meditate on Psalm 91 as the Prayer of Protection.
Pastor Joseph Prince has written a book called the Prayer of Protection: Living Fearlessly in Dangerous Times. It expounds on the Psalm verse by verse, word by word.
There is also a daily devotional and a study guide for personal or group bible study on Psalm 91.
Last but not least, the church has designed a couple of wallpapers based on Psalm 91. There are versions for mobile devices and desktops. Check the NCC Psalm 91 wallpapers out.

We have come to the end of this post. I hope you have found what you are seeking. If not, keep looking. For Jesus said,
9 “I tell you, keep asking, and it will be given you. Keep seeking, and you will find. Keep knocking, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened.
