The Gourmet Detective consists of five movies, all featuring culinary consultant Henry Ross and Detective Maggie Price solving murder mysteries. It is based on a book series of the same name by Peter King. There are altogether 8 books in the series (affiliate link).
In the book series, Henry Ross is based in London and the cases occurred in various parts of the world. In the movie series, Henry Ross is portrayed by Dylan Neal and Detective Maggie is portrayed by Brooke Burns. And they are based in San Francisco.
It is interesting to see how the writers adapt the books to suit the San Francisco’s backdrop. So nice to find the full-length series on Youtube.
Gourmet Detective
Detective Maggie and Henry started off on a wrong note but managed to solve the murder of an investigative journalist and a head chef together.
Gourmet Detective 2: A Healthy Place to Die
Henry saw a female journalist floating face down in a pool at a wellness resort, but her body mysteriously disappeared. This is a good plot. The motive is well hidden even though it seems a little weak.
Gourmet Detective 3: Death Al Dente
The owner of an 80-year-old restaurant was stabbed and later died at the hospital. Henry and Maggie have to navigate a family rumour to solve his murder.
Gourmet Detective 4: Eat, Drink and Be Buried
Son of a rich man was killed in a re-enactment of a duel. Henry and Maggie worked together to flush out the killer. This plot is a bit too predictable.
Gourmet Detective 5: Roux the Day
The buyer of a 100-year-old chef book was killed in his antique shop. Is the book a fake?
