This is a compilation of knitters’ websites or blogs belonging to or ran by individual knitters or small businesses.
Google search results for knitting are often dominated by commercial craft sites. I have nothing against these, but I thought it would be nice to showcase individual knitters or small businesses. It takes time to create a website or blog. I salute these knitters / crafters who took time to share their love of knitting or launch their dream business.
I try to divide the list according to whether they are just personal sites that happen to have knitting patterns or the websites of small craft businesses.
Knit Doll Keito
Knit Doll Keito is a blog created by a Japanese knitter dedicated to Keito, the hand knitted doll and her accessories. It contains her knitting notes and pictures of her experiments with different techniques. It showcases her meticulous and careful process. The doll pattern (version 3) is freely available on the site.
Haloroundmyhead Knits
Haloroundmyhead Knits belongs to Sarah Ellis. It is more like a personal blog that contains her knitting designs, which are mostly free.
Knitgrammer
Knitgrammer belongs to Ida, an engineer, who happens to love knitting. On her website, there are knitting calculators which can do some knitting maths. I am sure it is something maths-challenged knitters would appreciate. Her free knitting patterns are mostly socks and beanies for the cold weather in Finland.
Tin Can Knits
Tin Can Knits belongs to two Canadian designers; Alexa Ludeman and Emily Wessel. I love their patterns; modern yet timeless. They have a lot of children knits because they knit for their families. Read their story here. Some of their patterns are free.
Sweet Paprika Designs
Sweet Paprika Designs belongs to sisters Elizabeth and Debbie Sullivan in Canada. Their website offers patterns, yarns, knitting supplies, and classes. Pattern design range from the whimsical to classic.
TanisKnits
TanisKnits belongs to Tanis Gray Chang. She can be considered a professional knitwear designer, with over 700 published knitting designs in her portfolio, with works featured in many major publications and books worldwide.
Shanalines Designs
Shanalines Designs belongs to Shana S. Cohen. Her patterns are size-inclusive and mostly modular designs, and garter stitch.
ArtQualia
ArtQualia belongs to Susanna IC. There are a lot of free knitting patterns, mostly lace projects.
Justyna Knits
Justyna Knits belongs to Justyna Lorkowska. Her site contains knitting patterns, yarns, and workshops.
Artesanitarium
Artesanitarium is run by Annina, a prolific designer with over 150 designs under her belt. Her patterns are mostly fantasy, sci-fi, architecture, and mythology. She is also the Queen of Cables. If you are looking for unique feminine knits, check the site out.
Purl Soho
Purl Soho is both a physical and online yarn shop built by 2 sisters: Joelle and Jennifer Hoverson. I love Purl Soho’s knitting patterns. Simple and elegant with calming colours. There are lots of helpful video and pictorial tutorials.
