Your Steadfast Love Lyrics and Chords | Ted Sandquist

your steadfast love

“Your Steadfast Love”, a song based on Psalm 36:5-10, was penned by Ted Sandquist in the 1970s.

I can’t recall the exact moment when I first heard it. However, there have been countless instances when the music and lyrics spontaneously welled up within me, leading me to quietly worship God.

I find Don Moen’s interpretation to be particularly anointed. This song has a special place in my spiritual journey.

Your Steadfast Love Lyrics

Your steadfast love extends to the heavens
Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds
Your righteousness is like majestic mountains
And your wisdom like the depth of the sea
And you come to me

Filling my heart with your loving kindness
I find my peace in the shadows of your wings
I eat my fill from the abundance of your household
And I drink from the streams of rejoicing
'Cause you are my king

You are my king (4x)

Your steadfast love extends to the heavens
Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds
Your righteousness is like majestic mountains
And your wisdom like the depth of the sea
And you come to me (come to me)

Filling my heart with your loving kindness
I find my peace in the shadows of your wings
I eat my fill from the abundance of your household
And I drink from the streams of rejoicing

You are my king (7x)

Meditating on Psalm 36:5-10

Isn’t it comforting to know and experience the steadfastness of God’s love in our lives through familiar imageries?

Your loving kindness, Yahweh, is in the heavens.
Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the mountains of God.
Your judgments are like a great deep.
Yahweh, you preserve man and animal.
How precious is your loving kindness, God!
The children of men take refuge under the shadow of your wings.
They shall be abundantly satisfied with the abundance of your house.
You will make them drink of the river of your pleasures.
For with you is the spring of life.
In your light we will see light.
Oh continue your loving kindness to those who know you,
your righteousness to the upright in heart.

Psalm 36:5-10 WEB

God’s wings where we can take refuge under and enjoy the coolness of their shadows. This also refers to the ark of the covenant. Stand in the shadow cast by the wings of the cherubim on top of the mercy seat means you are so near to God.

God’s house where we can dwell and find satisfaction.

River of your pleasures where we can drink to quench our thirst and find joy. This is no ordinary river; it is the river of God’s pleasures.

Spring of life where death is far away.

Lastly, God’s light that lights our paths.

We have come to the end of this post. I hope you have found what you are seeking. If not, keep looking. For Jesus said,

“I tell you, keep asking, and it will be given you. Keep seeking, and you will find. Keep knocking, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened.

Luke 11:9-10 WEB

For God so loved you, He sent His only begotten Son to die on the cross for you. You are precious to Him.
